THE PROBLEM

It’s estimated that more than 12 million tons of plastic is dumped into our oceans every year.

No one knows for certain how much plastic, which is virtually indestructible, has accumulated in the seas. The best guess, made in 2015, was about 150 million metric tons. Assuming things remain the same, the study estimates that accumulation will become 600 million metric tons by 2040.

This year another 400 million tons of virgin plastic will be produced. Only 9% of all plastics ever produced have been recycled. Marine species ingest or are entangled by plastic debris, which causes severe injuries and deaths. Plastic pollution threatens food safety and quality, human health, coastal tourism and contributes to climate change.

Komrads wants to tackle this problem: that’s why we introduce the new OCNS collection.
