Today is World Ocean Day

Today, on the 8th of June, we celebrate World Ocean day. This day aims to unite and activate the world to help preserve and restore our already damaged oceans.

The project is led by the Youth Advisory Council, the council was founded in 2016 to increase the involvement of the new generation in a unique way and help create a better future with healthier oceans and climate. You can join worldwide events to help protect our beloved seas. Furthermore, the organization also provides an event planning toolkit for everybody to get involved with their friends, family or colleagues to make an event of their own.

Apart from local and global clean up events, World Ocean Day also strives to reach the 2022 Conservation Action Focus. The focus of this project is to get 30% of the oceans protected by 2030 (30x30). Already 90 different countries have adopted the 30x30 policy with the United Nations Biodiversity Summit closing in. This benchmark is critical as flourishing oceans are an instrumental part in the battle against climate change. Currently, only 8% of the oceans are protected. If we can increase this number, the biodiversity will regenerate massively.

With your help and the efforts of the Youth Advisory Council, no task is unachievable. The movement will keep growing and strive to reach their goals! Furthermore, you can also support the cause and help clean the oceans by wearing a pair of our OCNS. Our sneakers from the OCNS collection are made from retrieved plastic from the oceans!
