Fair fashion. Ethical fashion. Green fashion. Sustainable fashion. We are surrounded by these terms. But what do they mean? Fair fashion is fashion that’s made from sustainable materials and where there is no child labour or poor working conditionsinvolved. In addition, fair fashion is less damaging to the environment and leads to an improvement in the quality of life of the workers responsible for making your garments.
Why is fair fashion so important?
Every time you buy something, you are casting a vote for the world you want to live in." Fortunately, more and more producers are thinking about the welfare of their workers and mass production is gradually becoming a no-go. Although there is still a lot of improvement needed. With Fair Fashion, attention is paid to the environment and the people who make the clothes. For example, no chemicals are used on the land and workers are paid correctly. In addition, fair fashion is produced using recycled materials such as PET bottles or recycled cotton, and causes fewer emissions and animal suffering. In short, sustainable fashion greatly reduces our ecological footprint. Are you planning to buy something new soon? Then choose the most sustainable option: local, organic, ecological or made from fair trade materials.
Where do our materials come from?
At Komrads we want to lower our carbon footprint, so we use locally sourced materials from nearby manufacturing site in Portugal, Spain, and Italy. So, we are cutting down on transportation distances, which lowers greenhouse gas emissions.
“THERE IS A LOT OF WOOL BEING PULLED OVER PEOPLE’S EYES - ESPECIALLY IN FASHION. IN FACT, THE FANCIER THE WOOL, THE MORE PULLING TENDS TO BE INVOLVED. AND WE REALLY DON’T LIKE WHERE THIS IS HEADING.”
Our environmental impact?
When you think of sustainable products, does transportation distance, materials origin, or manufacturing site come to mind? NO! Well it should! At Komrads we want to reduce our carbon footprint. We do this by producing footwear that consist solely of recycled and reused materials such as Apple leather, recycled cotton and rubber. Recently, we also shaked hands with the independent partner BCOME to create a sustainability report about our shoes. This allows us to map out all production processes of our Komrads sneakers. Because we have more insight into all the data, we are able to improve our products and communicate transparently to you. Also curious about our BCOME audit? Scan the QR code below.
What are we doing to protect the human rights of our workers?
Our sneakers are made in Portugal, therefore, we can guarantee that they are made under European working conditions. This means no sweatshops, no child labor, no miserable wages and endless working hours or unacceptable health and safety conditions. The better the work environment, the happier our employees are. The happier employees are, the more luv they put into your sneakers. Ultimately, honesty builds trust. We could consider producing in Asia, America, or … wait a moment no we could not do that, because it’s not in our DNA! Producing in China would make the production cost 10 times cheaper, producing in South America 5 times, but the impact on the planet is more worth to us than a few bucks. So, we stay true to our promise!
