Belgium and many other countries are not living up to their international climate promises.
Vzw Klimaatzaak wants to change that through the courts. To enforce an ambitious climate policy, 58 586 citizens are filing a lawsuit against the four competent Belgian governments.

The Earth’s climate has always changed naturally. Usually, these changes take place over thousands of years, such as the coming and going of ice ages.
But the climate is now changing much faster due to changes to the atmosphere caused by human activities. Burning fossil fuels releases greenhouse gases that enhance the Earth’s natural greenhouse effect, causing warming.
Time is running out.
Rather than getting out of fossil fuels and into clean energy, many wealthy nations are reinvesting in oil and gas, failing to cut emissions fast enough and haggling over the aid they are prepared to send to poor countries.
Therefore, we must remind our government of their duty and, if necessary, force them, through a lawsuit, to assume their responsibility.
